Camp Coaches
Marc DeRose
has
spent the last five years as Head Lightweight
Rowing Coach at Columbia University where he lead
the 8+ to silver medal finishes at both the IRA
National and Eastern Sprints Championships. Prior
to this he served in several positions including
Head Men’s Rowing coach at the University of
Massachusetts and Lightweight coach at the Ottawa
Rowing Club. Marc led Ottawa to two Canadian
Henley titles in the 4- and 2- and a National
Championship in the 2-. While in Canada, Marc
also coached the Montreal and Quebec Provincial
Juniors to Henley gold in the 4x and a National
Championship in the 2x. In 2005 he coached the
Guatemalan men’s lightweight 1x and most recently
coached the 2007 US Under-23 lightweight 4-.
Wendy Wilber is the novice
coach at Boston College. She graduated in 1998
from the University of Massachusetts and went on the
win three World Championship medals including the
Gold in 2003 in the 4-. She is an excellent
addition to our staff and will be working with Nancy
at the Juniors Camp in 2006.
Alex Binkowski is the
Director of Operations at PNRA. Alex has
held many coaching positions around the country
including: Chattanooga TN, San Francisco CA,
Bloomington IN, Topeka and Manhattan KS, Greenwich
CT, and Amherst MA. He has
coached the Junior US single Sculler and is
actively engaged in racing as a masters sculler.
Ron 'SWEDE' Burak
began
his rowing career years ago with the Beamsville
High School team and the St.Catharines Rowing
Club. He has had a successful rowing career as a
member eight Canadian National Teams, beginning in
1971 at the Junior World Championships. Highlights
of his career representing Canada until the early
1980’s include a gold medal at the 1975 Pan Am
Games in Mexico and the 1976 Olympic Games in
Montreal. Swede started coaching in 1978
with his former high school, eventually moving on
to coach the St.Catharines Rowing Club and Brock
University. Currently Swede is working on level II
certification with the NCCP. He has also coached
his daughter’s elementary, and traveling
basketball
teams. Outside of Canada he has assisted at
training camps with the University of
Massachusetts. Swede has been very successful at
all levels, including numerous gold medals as an
athlete and as a coach from the CSSRA and Canadian
Henley.
Swede currently lives in St Catharines with his
wife and youngest daughter.
Greg Kruzinski is the Head
Coach of Colgate University. Greg is a graduate
of the US Coast Guard Academy where he rowed
on several championship crews. He was voted
the 1999 DIII National Coach of the Year while
taking Williams College to the NCAA Championships.
Rob McCracken is the
Head
Coach at George Washington University. Rob competed
for Duke University, playing an integral part
in the program’s success. He helped form the
foundation at Indiana University and has been actively
involved in rowing for over 12 years.
Jamie Whalen is an independent
rowing coach based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He
travels widely to row and coach and is known for
his work with scullers. He began rowing at the
Argonaut Rowing Club in 1985 while studying
for his masters degree in History of Science at
the University of Toronto. He began sculling,
coaching and repairing boats at the St. John's
College boathouse in Annapolis in 1989. During
the past two seasons he has been the head coach
of the successful juniors sculling program at
the Quad City Rowing Association in Moline,
Illinois. During 2002-03, he was a varsity
assistant coach for the the lightweight and
open weight women's crews at the University of
Wisconsin. Since 1992, he has be a guest coach
at many camps and clubs, including the Florida
Rowing Center, Northeast Rowing Center, and Row
as One. In 2001, he attended the FISA
International Coaching Academy in Seville,
Spain. He has been a USRowing Level III coach
since 2000
